This is a long stick, wrapped around with holy red, white little clothes and threads. At the top of this stick, there are many peacock feather attached to it. This is called a Goga Peer ki Chhadi carrying by few people travelling place to place for asking donation in form of oil, ghee, clothes or may be money. In this group, there is a person who sings devotional bhajans and another person play little musical instruments. They visited our village few days back Independence day.

My wife told me that these people come every year and ask for donation in such musical way by visiting home to home in the village. When these people near our house, we were in our bedroom at first floor. We were playing with our daughter that time, and they stopped at main door.

As they arrived in our house, my mother calling for my daughter Prerna to come down and touch this chhadi for blessings. Me and my wife heard that and I still didn't send my daughter downstairs. My wife was upset about this cause she believed in them. After insisting by her many time, I didn't send my daughter. And I was wishing that they should have gone soon.

But after waiting for 10 minutes, they were still playing their instrument down there. So I decided to go downstairs alone and check on them. What I saw, they were enjoying cold-drinks brought by my family. My mom go nearby the stick and tied a holy thread with a wish.

My mom told me to bring Prerna and have blessings from them. But I refused and said that they are fake devotional saints who are asking donations in the name of Goga Peer bhagwan. I mentioned that Goga peer didn't require any money or any form of donation for these people. They can earn it by themselves.

Any one can make such chhadi and visit people's home for donation, there could be some scammers or any kind of dangerous people who can look into our home and get to know about members. But my mom has a belief that Goga peer is a lord of snakes. By giving them something, Goga peer wil save us from snakes. Yes, it sounds like people are giving them some protection money.

A small thought

I'm not here to hurt anyone's sentiments. But these people know how to take advantage of the fear of  people. We shouldn't fear god for not giving anything to these people. This is a kind of business for these people like asking donation in the name of god, Maharaj, deity etc. Even you are free for not to contribute for so called spiritual events like Bhagwan ki katha, Bhandara, Prasad etc. The god never wants this from you and you shouldn't fear god for not doing this. If you do your job and put every effort for fulfilling your family's responsibilities, this is what truly liked by God.
